The Indian in the Cupboard is a thrilling novel by a creative author named Lynne Reid Banks. This book tells a story about a boy named Omri and his journey with a toy Indian named Little Bear. Omri discovers this little Indian friend when he receives him as a birthday present from his friend Patrick. When Omri came back from school after receiving his toy Indian from Patrick, he was greeted with showers of presents from his family members. The last present to open was from his older brother, Gillon. As Omri ripped the last pieces of wrapping paper off his last surprise, he uncovered a small white metal cupboard. At first, when Omri opened this gift, he was disappointed. Little did he know that when later playing with this cupboard and his new Indian, he would witness a great deal of amazing magic.
In this book, the author does a great job of going into detail when describing a certain person, place or thing. For example, when the horse comes out of the cupboard alive, I love how the author explains the scene: "There, prancing and pawing the white paint, was a lovely, shiny-coated little brown Arab horse. As the door swung open he shield nervously, turning his face and pricking his ears so far forward they almost met over his forelock. His tiny nostrils flared, and his black tail plumed above his haunches as he gave a high, shrill neigh." In this example, the author is very specific and uses great adjectives to describe the appearance of the horse. One of the reasons why this book is so wonderfully written is because the author uses very descriptive language.
